CENTRAL CATHOLIC COLUMN
The Central Catholic High School Lacrosse team is looking strong as the 2013 season begins. Coached by Dan Dolphin, the team has many returning senior leaders, including: Tyler Fox, Jeff Guylas, Matt Stuart, Matt Wagner and Colin McDermott. The team has very high goals and expectations and hopes to repeat last year's season, where they defeated rival Emmaus High School in the District XI Championship game.
The boys basketball team has moved on to the second round of the state tournament, after defeating Northeastern 64-51 March 8 at Freedom High School. Led by junior Jean Lee Baez, who recorded 22 points and 9 rebounds, the team hopes to continue their success in the next round against Donegal March 12. A district 3 powerhouse, Donegal defeated Wilkes-Barre March 8 by a score of 64-44. The venue of the upcoming game has yet to be announced, but most likely will be played in the Reading area.
Led by Principal Dennis Nemes, the Central Catholic Board of General Governance is continuing to further their commitment to future improvement of the CCHS academic community. The board has met several times and has formed multiple major committees, including the nominating committee, finance committee, development committee, facilities committee, enrollment committee and executive committee. The board, along with these special committees, will continue to meet regularly in order to achieve their goal of academic excellence.
Nemes has also announced three dates for parents, students and members of the CCHS family to express their opinions and ideas regarding current events at the school. Student safety will be discussed March 18, academics and activities will be discussed April 17 and general discussion items is the topic for May 1.
