Student profile: Gabriel Olah, Saucon Valley HS
Grade: 12
Family members: Maddalena Olah, mom; Robert Olah, dad; Rachael Bell, sister
Favorite subject: My favorite subjects have been math and science. I enjoy using logic and having to think problems and solutions far more than I enjoy writing an essay for a history or English class.
Activities: I'm co-leading Writing Club with two others. I love this club because I can express myself/my passions through poetry and story. Environmental Club; I sincerely care about the world that God created! President of Foreign Language + Culture Club. This club is for those who have interest in a foreign language, culture or cuisine; School Spirit Club. I joined this club because I wish to make the school community a better place; Executive Producer of Saucon Valley's TV Studio.
Next steps: When I finish my education at Saucon, I plan on going to Northampton Community College for two years. Afterward, I'll likely be going to Kutztown, East Stroudsburg or Drexel. Kutztown is my primary choice.
Career goals: I had narrowed my choices to math teacher, but with the start of senior year, my interests have expanded. I may also be interested in the film industry or the engineering industry, due to my current activities in Saucon Valley.
Heroes: 1. Christ, above everyone else. All glory to Christ that I'm still alive and breathing. Life has been tough, from my education to my sister's health state. He helps me get through the rough days, and even in the joyful days I give Him praise. 2. My parents. My mom is the first person to lead me to Christ, and without her, I don't think I would be full of the joy I have now. Things would be a lot different, and worse, if I didn't have my dad to help me in times of struggle. 3. Mario Marcozzi, National Honor Society adviser. This gentleman ignited the spark of involvement within me. 4. Debbie Martin, friend. Ever since middle school until the beginning of junior year, I lived a life of social depravity. I treated other teens with indifference and without care, including Debbie, a fellow Christian who appreciated my love for God and my gift at writing. Her appreciation eventually got through my callous heart.
Hobbies: I like walking and running around my neighborhood. Often, I sing when no one is around. I also love to write poetry and stories based on any subject.
Likes: I love listening to music, mainly Christian, Irish folk and soundtrack music. MY favorite artists are Phil Wickham, Chris Tomlin, Christopher Franke, Enya and Jeremy Soule. I like spending time with the family on weekends, reading my Bible, napping, writing poetry and occasionally playing video games.
Dislikes: The main thing that bothers me is when people profess the name of Christ while living a life of sin. Smaller topics that bother me are rap, hip-hop, other music genres that just don't appeal to my ears. I also dislike people bullying others.
Greatest accomplishment (so far): Entering National Honor Society is my greatest achievement yet. During the induction ceremony I felt as if I joined the upper echelons of an academically well-rounded group of people.
Advice for peers: Don't ever hold grudges; it will leave a spiritual hole in your heart unless you forgive and move on. There's not enough people in this world that smile. Keep smiling. Despite all the fun times you had in high school, you need to have the strength to move on in life and overcome any sorrow you'll face after leaving some of your best friends behind. Besides, your college years may be a better chapter of your life. Through many of the people in my life, God metamorphosed my integrity for the better. I believe He can do something awe-inspiring in your life as well. Get involved in after-school activities. My peers should not burden themselves with regrets from the past. They should just move on, accomplish their present goals and not worry too much about the future. Don't compromise your faith in God. If I could summarize the meaning of life in one sentence, I'd say, "Live life to the fullest in a Godly fashion."
