New items to be on display Siegfried Station to open next weekend

The Siegfried Station, home to the Northampton Area Historical Society, continues to add to its collection of borough memorabilia and history.

The items on display at the station offer a treasure trove from the town's past.

The museum's latest acquisitions includes rare and quaint, one-of-a-kind items.

The recent pieces added to the collection for display include a spittoon from Iron Antiques. The spittoon was a feature at borough taverns decades ago. Other items include Lerner Department Store items, a John F. Kennedy postcard, bowls donated by Caroline Yastrzab and a collection of Northampton Rotary Club items given the society by Frank Kovacs, Arthur Schisler and William Boucher.

Also included are pie and cake plates, wine glasses, Roxy Theatre advertising soup bowls, a creche with a 99-cent price tag and a Nativity figurine with a 29-cents price tag, donated by Irene Urban.

An A&P Market Melmac promotional place setting was donated by David and Nancy Miller, a street sign from 26th and Washington was donated by Walter Rute, items from the former J.J. Klepinger Meat Market were donated by Russell Marsh and badges and bags were donated by Jack Delabar.

Also added to the list are 40 Northampton Area High school yearbooks from Nicholas and Lois Oranczak.

These and a special display, "Rabbits, Eggs, Baskets, Bonnets" will be available for public viewing 1-4 p.m. March 16 and 17 and March 23 and 24.
