Bernice M. Snyder

Bernice M. Snyder, a centenarian, born December 3, 1912, and lifelong resident of Lake Hauto, died peacefully March 3, 2013, in Blue Mountain Health System Gnaden Huetten Campus, with her dedicated family by her side. She was very proud to be a part of five living generations of her family. She was the wife of the late Kenneth J. "Cookie" Snyder for 38 years at the time of his death, Dec. 19, 1968.

Born in Nesquehoning she was the daughter of the late John and Emma (Penberth) Shinton.

She was a lifelong active member of the Meeds Memorial United Methodist Church in Nesquehoning and was the former treasurer of the Carbon County Redevelopment Authority. A Past Worthy Matron, she was a member of Gnaden Huetten Chapter No. 203 Order of the Eastern Star.

She was a former real estate agent and aide for Intermediate Unit 21.

She is survived by sons, Kenneth S. and his wife Irene of Whitehall and Gene and his wife Terry of Amityville, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother, Sheldon Shinton and other siblings.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, in the Gilbert Funeral Home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall, Viewings, 6 to 8 p.m. today, Thursday, March 7, with Eastern Star Services at 7:30 p.m., and again on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
