Freedom swimmers Carly DelFranco, Helen Hsu, Brooke Munion, and Shannon Howell took first place in the 200 medley relay in 1:48.70 at the District XI Swimming Championships last weekend, and that was only the beginning for the Patriots.
In individual events, Hsu won the 100 free in 51.91.
Freedom coach Reik Foust said, "It was her mind-blowing speed. It's always impressive to win a district event, and she also broke a school record. In the medley relay, she had the second fastest time in the breaststroke."
Even more impressive was her split in the 200 free relay in which Howell, Munion, Molly Magnan, and Hsu placed second in 1:37.29.
"Helen had the fastest split in the 200 free relay of any girl at that meet. The work Helen was doing, she just refused to lose," Foust said.
In other individual events, Howell placed third in the 500 free in 5:07.12, and DelFranco took third place in the 200 IM in 2:11.73.
The Patriot girls also placed first in the 400 free relay but were disqualified due to a premature entry into the water.
"It's one of those things that you just move forward from, but even with that millisecond of a difference, we still would have won," said Foust.
All five girls will compete at the PIAA State Swimming Championships on March 13-16 at Bucknell University.
"I am incredibly proud of anyone who wore Freedom colors this weekend. We have ten kids going to states, and I am really excited to see how they do there," Foust said.
