The annual March cleaning of Coplay's streets can't come soon enough for borough residents.

Families say the grit, fine sand and other materials get tracked into their homes, putting their vacuum cleaners into overtime mode.

When driving around surrounding communities, some say they have seen the municipal street sweepers in action.

A few years ago, the borough had an opportunity to join North Catasauqua Borough and Allen Township to purchase a street sweeper. The council at the time decided against the purchase.

Borough leaders could pursue an agreement with North Catasauqua and East Allen or even Northampton Borough and Whitehall Township so that Coplay could get its streets cleaned sooner. Intermunicipal agreements exist involving police and fire protection.

The Coplay Saengerbund has appointed a new president for 2013. Kevin Fritz is now heading the popular club, located at Fifth Street and Schreiber Avenue.

Others serving with Fritz include Agnes R. Kroboth, first vice president; Marc E. Biechy, second vice president; Victoria Alban, corresponding secretary; Lisa Miller, recording secretary; Dennis Suranofsky, financial secretary; and Frank J.Kroboth, treasurer.

Trustees include Karen Grim, David Domitrovits, Frank T. Luizer and Sandra Scheffy.

Coplay Sports Inc. sign-ups have concluded for the 2013 season. The organization reports it will accept further registrations of children, but a late fee will be applied.

Yes, a new street light and supporting poles will be installed at Second and Chestnut streets. Several weeks ago, a tractor trailer struck the light pole, sending the entire unit crashing down. A restaurant sign was also knocked down.
