Whitehall Township is considering transforming an old school bus into a mobile command center for the township's Public Works Department.

It would be used in instances when a emergency arises, such as during weather related matters.

Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. in a report to the board of commissioners said a meeting was held with the township's emergency management coordinator concerning the proposal. Further details are expected to be released later as discussions on the issue continue to unfold.

In other business, a stream cleanup project was discussed by township personnel with representatives from Trout Unlimited and the fish commission. The topic was having township waters such as the Coplay Creek cleared of debris.

Hozza indicated Coplay Aggregates was asked to keep trucks off Coplay Road due to concrete breaking up. The road is used heavily by trucks entering and exiting the company's site.

Other projects involving the public works department include working on a traffic light emergency power plan.

Bid packets were assembled for the Village Green Barn project and pricing for tree removal at Third and Grape streets, where the township owns a former office building. The building will be razed in order to allow the township to widen a section of Grape Street, a route used for a heavy traffic flow to and from businesses at the Lehigh Valley Mall and on MacArthur Road.
