Borough ready for middle school project

Northampton Borough Council was told at a recent meeting construction of the new Stadium Drive located, off Smith Lane, should begin soon.

Since the new roadway will consume some of the borough park property on the east end, borough Manager Gene Zarayko said a borough public works crew will begin removing the fence and equipment at the park's tennis courts.

"Some of the fencing material will then be used to repair the Alliance Playground tennis court area," Zarayko said.

The agreement the borough has with the school district grants the public permission to use the school district's tennis courts off Laubach Avenue and across from the high school when the school does not have tennis matches or practice sessions scheduled.

In other business, council adopted a resolution officially approving the intermunicipal sewer service agreement with Allen Township. Council President John Yurish was authorized to sign the necessary documents.

Because the negotiations for the pact dragged on until recently, once signed, the document was made effective retroactively to Jan. 1, 2012.
