Richard L. "Dick" Patterson, of Allentown, formerly of Macungie, died February 13, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Mayellen (Shahmoon) Patterson. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary last July. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late William and Ellen (Sherry) Patterson, of Allentown.
He graduated from Augusta Military Academy and was their champion trumpet player all through school.
He served several years in the Merchant Marines.
He attended Lebanon College as a music major.
He worked summers at Lehigh Structural Steel and then studied structural steel drafting. He completed the Dale Carnegie course and was promoted to structural steel salesman for New York and Boston. After several years, he transferred to Maryland and covered Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Maryland for many years working for Fuller Co.
He enjoyed many years of fishing, boating and swimming with family at a summer place and in the winter at Lake Wallenpaupack. He enjoyed baseball games with his grandson and St. Francis DeSales College children shows with his granddaughter.
He was a member and convert of St. Francis of Assisi and a member of St. Catherine of Siena.
He is survived by his wife; son Andrew L.; daugher, Linda A. Maines; great-granddaughter, Shaelyn Maines and her mother, Kim Maines. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Tanner and grandson, Ian Christopher Maines.
Services are private for the family with Cremation Society of Pennsylvania.
