Feb. 27
The Lower Macungie Library, 3450 Brookside Road, Lower Macungie Township, will host a writing workshop 6:30 p.m. Author David Miller, of the Greater Lehigh Valley Writers Group, will lead the workshop teaching writers three ways to get published. The Allentown Public Library will hold open mic night and off the page poetry 7 to 8:30 p.m. It is a platform for poets, storytellers and musicians to share their works and inspiration in an intimate setting. Come perform or just listen.
Overeaters Anonymous will meet 1 to 2 p.m. at Saint Mathews Evangelical Church, 35 N 5th St., Emmaus. The group will continue to meet each Wednesday at the church. The meetings are free and open to the public. The church has facilities, a ramp and an elevator, for handicapped people to gain access to the meeting room by way of the south entrance.
Feb. 28
The Emmaus Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut Street, Emmaus. The program, "Emaus Diamond Jubilee of 1934," will take visitors through the Jubilee Week events. Shoofly pies can be ordered through April 5 to be picked up at the April 17 meeting or at the museum April 20. Call 610-966-6591 to order.
Lehigh Valley Chapter 1371 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet 12:45 p.m. in the Peters Lutheran Church community room, 1933 Hanover Ave., Allentown. Harry F. Dorman, a local financial planner, will discuss the new tax laws and make suggestions for additional tax savings for seniors.

Zion's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5901 King's Highway South, Old Zionsville, will hold a Miller-Keystone blood drive 3 to 8 p.m. The blood mobile will be located in the parking lot. To schedule an appointment or for more information, call Mary Snyder at 610-967-4311 or stop by the church office.
March 5
The Emmaus Garden Club will hold their first meeting of the year noon at Faith Presbyterian Church, North 3rd and Cherokee streets, Emmaus. A light lunch will be served and the program begins 1 p.m. Guest speaker Myra Fenza, owner of Floral Accents in Allentown, will present "Art in Bloom." Drawing from her training in fine art, she will create several fresh floral arrangements inspired by accompanying works of art.
The Delaware-Lehigh Amateur Radio Club is hosting classes to help teach about amateur radio 7 to 9 p.m. for nine Tuesdays beginning March 5. Classes will be held at Gracedale Nursing Home, 2 Gracedale Ave., Nazareth. There will be a class to help prepare for the Federal Communications Commission test to earn an entry-level amateur radio license and a class to prepare technician class license holders for acquisition of a general class license. Allentown AARP Chapter #5415 will meet noon at St. Timothy's Church, 140 South Ott St., Allentown. Sara Ullmer from the Crime Victim's Council will speak on "elder abuse." Bring a nonperishable food item for the Allentown Food Bank.
The Delaware-Lehigh Amateur Radio Club will hold its monthly meeting 7:30 p.m. in the Bethlehem Township Community Center, 2900 Farmersville Road, Bethlehem. The program will be "VHF/UHF & Microwave Contesting." Members and interested general public are welcome.
March 9
The Church of the Good Shepherd, 135 Quarry Road, Alburtis, will hold their spring bazaar 9 to 2 p.m. There will be crafts, a white elephant sale, a Chinese auction, a bake sale and food.
March 16
Old Zionsville UCC Church, 5981 Fountain Road, Old Zionsville, will host an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet and bake sale 7 to 11 a.m. There will be a cost for guest six and over for breakfast. The public is welcome to attend. For information, call 610-966-5115.

Local naturalist and outdoor writer/photographer, Bud Cole, will present a PowerPoint program about the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador, 3 p.m. at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center. Learn more about this fascinating Pacific Ocean archipelago located 600 miles west of Ecuador. Spend St. Patrick's Day in the LGNC Visitors Center while taking a vicarious tour of the volcanic islands. April 14
Trinity Memorial Lutheran Church, 535 W. Emaus Ave. Allentown, will host Basket Bingo featuring Longenberger, Vera Bradley, Pampered Chef and Thirty-One 12:30 p.m. Tickets are limited and there is a cost. All proceeds will go to the church youth group. For more information, call 610-797-4393.
