Evans happy to share in milestone moment

When Ian Evans joined the illustrious 100-win club, there was one thing that stuck out to him the most, his teammate.

His milestone came on the same night as Ethan Lizak's 100th win back on January 26 at Whitehall.

"I think it was really cool getting my 100th win the same match as Ethan," Evans said. "He's probably the best wrestler we have on the team, and even though he got it a year earlier than I did, it's still pretty cool."

Two other seniors, Shaun Heist and Michael Marano also eclipsed the 100-win career total this season.

These four wrestlers have helped Parkland to a successful season this year, and in recent years. As a team, Parkland has finished in second place in districts three out of the last four years to Easton. The Trojans have recently finished a solid showing at the state tournament, falling to eventual state runner-up Central Dauphin 32-27 in the quarterfinals.

Evans missed the individual district tournament a year ago due to illness, but finished in fourth place at the 112 weight class in 2011. And there is one thing on his mind for this bounce back year of 2013.

"I'm going to try and win it," said Evans. "I want to win districts and regionals, and go out and place in the state tournament. That's my goal."

Evans began his wrestling career in kindergarten, and has come up through the Parkland program. He credits his coaching staff for all of his success.

"They could all be coaching at a college somewhere," said Evans. "They have all of the credentials in the world. They work hard to push you to get to the elite level."

His most memorable moment in the four years was defeating Peter Stanley of Easton in that 2011 district tournament. After losing via the major decision to Stanley in the regular season, Evans fought for a 1-0 decision.

He recently took a recruiting trip to Scranton, and is looking hard at the Royals program.

But for now his focus is on his last few weeks as a Parkland Trojan.

"I love it here," Evans said. "I couldn't imagine going anywhere else. There's a great coaching staff, great program and great facilities. I've gotten better each year - slowly but surely."

Evans and Parkland are riding some momentum at the right time, and look to end the season strong with individual districts beginning this weekend.
