Betty L. Hamm

Betty L. Hamm, 89, formerly of Orefield, died Feb. 13, 2013, Lehigh Center, Lower Macungie Township.

She was the wife of the late Willard N. Hamm.

Born Nov. 20, 1923, in Lehighton, she was the daughter of the late Amandus O. and Verna A. (Bryfogle) Mertz.

She and her late husband owned and operated the former Hamm's Service and Auto Parts, Orefield, for 24 years before retiring in 1982.

Before that, they owned the former Hamm's Service Station, Union Boulevard, Allentown for six years.

She was a member of Jordan Evangelical Lutheran Church, Orefield.

Her survivors include stepchildren, Barry C. Hamm and his wife, Shirley, of Orefield, Susan E. Bowman and her husband, Kerry, of New Underwood, S.D; brothers Robert A. Mertz and his wife, Faye, of Lehighton, Francis M. Mertz and his wife, Lois, of Palmerton; step-grandchildren, Deborah Long, Erik and Jason Bowman; step-great-grandchildren Chadd, Trey and Dylan Long and Michael Bowman; and step-great-great-grandchild Jesse Long.
