Stirner retrospective at Moravian

An opening reception and artist talk for "Transformations: Works in Steel," an exhibit of works by sculptor Karl Stirner is 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Feb. 21, The Payne Gallery, Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus, Moravian College, Bethlehem, where the exhibition continues through April 7.

The event is free and open to the public.

"The exhibition will feature Stirner's collection of large to medium-sized steel sculpture and nearly a dozen drawings," said David Leidich, Assistant Director of Payne Gallery.

"Stirner's reputation in Lehigh Valley arts, especially in the city of Easton, is immense. It is an honor for Moravian to display this retrospective of the life work of this 88-year-old sculptor who has make his indelible mark on the art world."

Stirner is an artist, arts patron and mentor. The Karl Stirner Arts Trail was dedicated to him by the City of Easton. Stirner lives in downtown Easton where he has his studio.

Stirner's art career began when he was 23-years-old. He studied as a professional draftsman and taught at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University and Moore and Swarthmore colleges.

He has created more than 400 works of art. His work is in the Museum of Modern Art, the Corcoran and Philadelphia Museum of Art.

A book has been published in connection with the exhibit.
