Mounds of glass piling up over the years on a borough property led borough council members to refer to it as "Mount Glassmore."
The heap of glass may no longer be a concern to borough lawmakers.
"We have been notified that CAP Glass from Allentown has purchased the Greenstar glass operation. They are currently removing all of the unusable glass and dumping it into a quarry located in Whitehall Township," borough Manager Gene Zarayko advised council at last Thursday's meeting.
Located in the borough's industrial zone, the Greenstar property is north of the borough's municipal complex.
The amount of glass grew because the various colors of brown, green and clear could no longer be commingled, Zarayko said.
This cut into the market for recycling the colored glass, which involves reducing the glass to a fine powder with no cutting ability.
Borough officials are relieved the glass is being removed. The recycling of plastic, paper and other materials will not be affected.
For Councilman Ed Pany, the news brought a moment of relief.
He and Councilman Robert Coleman used the name "Mount Glassmore" several times as the topic was discussed.
The recycling center came under criticism when a fire broke out in one of its structures several years ago.
The issue came to council's attention, with one borough lawmaker at the time.
Officials said sanctions such as fines should have been levied against the company at that time.
