Ladies invited for night out

You can buy a lot more than flowers at Bob's Flower Shop.

A new boutique section of the shop, located on Main Street in Northampton, features jewelry, purses, scarves, wraps and clothing.

The shop also offers a girls night out where customers can earn free merchandise by hosting a party at the shop. Ladies come to the store with their friends for refreshments and play games to win prizes and merchandise.

The shop provides the refreshments. All customers need to do is call, set a date and invite their friends.

The boutique is an extension of the family tradition that continues into the third generation.

Barbara Miller continues to operate Bob's Flower Shop after other family members owned and ran flower shops.

Miller's grandparents owned and operated a flower shop on Seventh Street in Allentown called Trail of the Lonesome Pine.

Her parents Robert and Rose Transue opened Bob's Flower Shop in 1940.

The sign represents both of her parents with Bob's name and a rose.

The shop originally was across the street from its current location.

Robert Transue worked in a shoe factory while Rose ran the shop and on his lunch breaks he would deliver flowers for the shop. Eventually Robert opened his own shoe repair business in addition to the flower shop.

In 1980 Miller started to run the shop. Her daughter Lynnette Barlip works in the store as a manager with her.

The shop's boutique items and flowers are available for delivery every day.

Bob's Flower Shop also offers custom floral designs for homes, weddings and funerals.

Miller's favorite part of running the store is "redecorating our displays and making the people feel good when they receive an arrangement."

"Our goal is to give good quality and well-treated flowers" she said.
