Approximately 150 businesses based in the township failed to file their local service tax.

Whitehall Township Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. announced Monday to the board of commissioners that the Deputy Mayor Jack Meyers and Berkheimer Tax Collectors conducted an investigation into the matter. They determined 150 businesses failed to report and remit quarterly payments for the tax collected from their employees.

"In cooperation with Berkheimer and the township solicitor [attorney Charles Fonzone], the administration is taking swift enforcement action. All these businesses used ADP as their payroll processing company," Hozza said.

The amount of funds owed the township was not stated.

In other business, the administration continues to work with Cornerstone in the diversification of the police pension fund. A meeting set for today, Feb. 14.

Meyers and Treasuer Diane Hunsicker assembled and forwarded all financial data and payroll information for the police pension fund actuary to perform the 2013 actuarial valuation. The commissioners were informed the report will be released later in the year.

Storing township records electronically continues to move forward. Hozza said the administration began the process of changing its six-year-old servers in the municipal building. The memory restrictions on the current equipment have been exceeded.

The lease, which goes into effect over the next several weeks, will dramatically increase the storage capacity, Hozza said, noting this will "allow the township to have the capability of storing paper files electronically."
