Dziedzic looking for D-11 berth
This year, Whitehall's Jason Dziedzic will likely achieve Eagle Scout status, a lifetime achievement mark for a dedication of service for more than 10 years of involvement.
Every year, Dziedzic is active in a number of camp activities and other related ones to help other enjoy and grow in one of the legendary service organizations around.
Also this year, Dziedzic also has aspirations of qualifying for districts and placing among the top competitors in his divisions as a member of the Whitehall High swimming program.
Last season, the senior qualified for districts in the 200 and 500 freestyle. This season, Dziedzic has enjoyed success competing in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.
In a recent meet against Pocono Mountain West, Dziedzic was the top finisher in each event as well as a leg in the winning 200 free relay and 200 medley relay for the Zephyrs.
If he can stay consistent throughout the remainder of the season, Dziedzic believes his goals well can be within reach.
"When I went to districts last season, I was really nervous," he recalled. "As a result, things didn't work out well. But I have done a number of things to work on lowering my time and increasing my speed.
"If I can keep having strong finishes during the season, I know it will help me in districts."
Dziedzic also is optimistic his team can also have a strong finish to their season. Despite being shorthanded with a small number of male swimmers on their roster, the boys' team has been competitive in their meets. On the other hand, the girls' program continues to emerge as one of the stronger ones in the Lehigh Valley.
"It has been a struggle for us, but we have kept working," Dziedzic said. "We have a number of guys who have been in the program and everyone has been doing better overall. All of us expect to have a good last part of the season."
His coach realizes their position and has been pleased with their results.
"Our boys team has been improving," said head coach Pete Rile. "Jason (Dziedzic) has rally worked hard through the years and everything is starting to pay off for him. He should qualify for districts and has a chance to make an impact there."
When his season ends, Dziedzic will have completed a swimming career in the Whitehall program that dates back to the first grade. He was an active participant with the Whitehall Waves as well as the high school program.
Dziedzic has high sights set on attending Bloomsburg University where he will entertain the thought of swimming as well as pursuing a degree in psychology. Until then, he will engage in some worthwhile goals in scouting and scour some in the pool, too.
