LETTER TO THE EDITOR
To the Editor:
The new Plan B is the result of the Friends organization holding Mr. Jaindl's and the commissioners "feet to the fire." The appellants have quietly pursued the legal channels available to them as citizens in an attempt to protect their property. There is nothing "personal' about that as Attorney Zator claimed.
What happened Jan.17, was a bit of Kubuki theater. Mr. Jaindl did an admirable selling job to accolades from the commissioners. What Mr. Jaindl did not expect was how the commissioners embraced Plan B, when that was meant to be implemented only if the appellants dropped the appeal.
The Friends organization still objects to the development. It takes 700 acres of prime pastoral and pristine farmland and turns it into a warehouse district with big box warehouses and 18-wheeler trucks on Spring Creek Road and Sauerkraut Lane. The approval of this development has opened the floodgates for requests to change farm preservation land to more development. Lower Macungie Township's landscape will never be the same.
Friends for the Protection of Lower Macungie Township believes the proposed Jaindl land development violates the quality of life goals stated in the 2020 Township Vision Statement, which calls for "preserved farm land and open space."
We continue to support the appellants in exercising their constitutional right to seek legal redress of their grievances against the arbitrary and secret decisions of the township commissioners in changing the zoning to allow this development.
We also support and endorse commissioner candidates who will take a more resolute stand against the exclusionary practices of our current elected officials.
We will also continue to monitor proposals and actions taken by township officials that would affect the best interest of the township's residents.
