EMMAUS BOROUGH COUNCIL Have a blast at the Winter Festival

Emmaus Borough Council unanimously approved the use of the Emmaus Triangle for the SnowBlast Winter Festival at the Jan. 21 meeting.

Council also voted to permit the sale of alcohol at the event by a 6-1 margin with Councilman Brian Holtzhafer opposed.

Michael Arndt and Cody Sabaski were appointed to the Emmaus Fire Department at the meeting. Council unanimously approved the appointments after a recommendation by Borough Manager Shane Pepe.

Current Emmaus Firefighter Paul Shankweiler was approved to become a driver and operator of trucks 711 and 712 after completing his training for operation of the engines.

Resident Jack Nonnemacher expressed concerns about the recent renovation to the baseball field at Emmaus Community Park. He wanted more information about the selection of 80-foot base paths rather than 90.

Pepe said the primary base paths are 80 feet but there will be an option to cover the base pads and create a 90-foot infield if necessary.

"We want that field to be as versatile as possible," Councilman Brent Labenburg said.

Holtzhafer said the renovations were achieved primarily through charitable donations and under the supervision of IronPigs Director of Field Operations Bill Butler. He said they will use the field as is and adjust the layout if deemed necessary in the future.

Solicitor Jeffery Dimmich said he is working on the appropriate signage requirements for the new truck parking ordinance. There will also be more information to come from Dimmich on the legal and appropriate way to operate the "paid volunteer" system for overnight shifts at the fire department.
