Sylvia M. Evans, 82, of Orefield, died Jan. 6, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice Unit, Allentown.

She was the widow of John F. Evans Sr.

Born in Washington, D.C., she was a daughter of the late Charles O. and Leah (Money) Jarrell.

She was a registered nurse for 57 years.

From 1950-54, she worked at Regional Memorial Hospital, Danville, Va.

After moving to Orefield, she was a labor and delivery nurse at the former Allentown General Hospital for many years.

She later worked at Cedarbrook Nursing Home until her retirement.

A member of Jordan Lutheran Church, she sang with the choir, and taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at the church.

She volunteered with various organizations around the area including the Girl Scouts.

She enjoyed skiing, bicycling, swimming, birdwatching, cooking, baking and had a deep love of flowers.

Her survivors include a son, John F. Jr. at home; daughters Sylvia A. Radvansky of Schnecksville, Catherine H., wife of Mark Dufour, of Ma-cungie, Caroline G., wife of Richard Simock, of Neffs; son-in law Michael Radvansky of Schnecksville; brother Vic Serfass of Glen Burnie, Md.; sisters Janet Bartley and Joanne Denshak of Maryland; grandchildren Lauren and Caroline Radvansky and Evan and Dylan Dufour; nieces and nephews.
