New tenants to occupy former Circuit City building

The commercial building on Grape Street which housed the former Circuit City, a chain electronic store, will soon have new tenants.

Work continues on the interior of the building. The township will issue certificates of occupancy once the work is finished and inspected, according to Whitehall Township Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr.

The new tenant, the ethnic restaurant Hibachi Grill, could open as early as this month, the mayor reported. However, no firm date has yet been set. The entrance will be on the west aside of the building, facing Grape Street, The Honey Ham Store Co. and the vacant Golf USA store. The Army Navy Store is on the east end.

Habitat for Humanity Reuse also will occupy a portion of the former Circuit City space. The store will offer for sale quality used furniture, fixtures and appliances. No date for its opening was announced.

A third prospective tenant is also being lined up by the building's owners. Hozza said it is premature to make public who the new tenant is or what type of business is planned.

The nearby Old Country Buffet, located in the Whitehall Mall lot to the west of the Circuit City structure, is planning to upgrade its interior and expand its food selection.

Across on the south end of the Lehigh Valley Mall, the Golden Corral, another buffet restaurant, should soon announce its grand opening. It had first been tentatively set for around Thanksgiving and then was expected for the Christmas season. It has not yet opened its doors, however.
