LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Ceasar enjoying swimming more every year

When she was younger, Vicky Ceasar swam in organized programs as a complement to playing soccer. Over the years, her affection and interest in the sports reversed their roles as she began to spend more time in the pool rather than on the field.

In recent years, former teammate and graduate Allison Coe finally turned the tide toward swimming for the current Whitehall senior.

"She (Coe) had a big influence over me," said Ceasar. "She (Coe) really pushed me to work hard. I owe a lot to her to where I am today with swimming." Currently, Ceasar is an integral part of the Whitehall girls' swimming program that has been making strides to become among the elite in the Lehigh Valley Conference. Ceasar swims in the relay, butterfly, freestyle events for the Zephyrs' program.

"Vicky has worked very hard and she has improved in her events," said head coach Pete Rile. "She had gotten better every year in her events. We expect her to make an impact at the end of the year for us." Ceasar recalled how she began swimming in second grade and has developed a love of the sport ever since. She swam competitively in the renowned Whitehall Waves program and eventually moved to the high school program.

"Every year, I seem to enjoy swimming better," she stated. "I knew I had to keep working if I wanted to get better at it. But I kept facing more and more challenges with each year." Her recent challenge is to continue to do well in the season meets and qualify for districts.

"We have a good team this year o the girls' side as we have done well in our meets, and our boys' team has also won some meets," she said. "Hopefully, I can make it to districts and play high this year. Last year, I qualified in the 500 (freestyle) at districts." Along with swimming, Ceasar has also developed an affinity for bowling, a sport she began at the age of four. When she isn't swimming or bowling, Ceasar spends the winter months snowboarding.

"I have been bowling since I was very young," she said. "I bowl in leagues throughout the year and I really enjoy it. During the winter, I try and go snowboarding as often as I can. It is another sport that I enjoy." Next year, Ceasar plans to attend Kutztown University and pursue a dual major in elementary education and special education with an emphasis in visual impairment. Until then, she plans to create some high tides with the Zephyrs.

"We have a good team and we can have a good year," she said. "We'll have some challenges ahead, but we feel confident we can handle them." Ceasar is likely to play a big role in achieving them.
