Beekeepers

The Lehigh Valley Beekeepers Association is offering a four-session introduction to beekeeping 7-9:30 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 6, 20 and March 6, 20.

All classes, as well as planned field trips to the club apiary, will be at Lehigh Carbon Community College, 4525 Education Park Drive, Schnecksville.

Building and classroom information will be announced prior to the first class.

For information prior to registering, stop by the Lehigh County Ag Center, Dorney Park Road, South Whitehall, between 1-3 p.m. Jan. 19 to talk to new and experienced beekeepers.

If you register and pay at this informational meeting, you will receive a discount off the class registration fee, which includes a reference book, course materials and refreshments.

Youth are invited to register as well.

Classes will cover basic bee biology, necessary hardware, installing bees in a new hive, honey bee pests and treatment options, hive products and what to expect throughout a beekeeper's typical year.

Instructors are association members including some of whom are certified master beekeepers.

Class size is limited.
