Each year, Legacy Oaks Social Committee selects a charity and offers residents of the 112 residential units the opportunity to contribute to their Thanksgiving Project.

The Keystone Wounded Warriors was chosen to receive this year's contribution.

The committee contacted the organization's director, Paul Spurgin, who is in charge of Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties. Spurgin gave several scenarios of men and women who need assistance after returning from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The committee chose a young man who was severely wounded in Afghanistan by the detonation of an IED (improvised explosive device) causing the loss of both legs and traumatic brain injury.

Although the young man is continuing to undergo surgeries, the Wounded Warriors are looking for funds to assist in retrofitting his home for his return.

They are creating a breezeway to enable him to go from the parking area to his home without enduring any severe weather and working to widen some internal doors within the home to make it more wheelchair friendly.

Legacy Oaks is very proud to announce that residents generously contributed $3,800 to the project.
