The burned body of a white or light-skinned Hispanic female was found in a wooded area of Chestnut Hill Road, Salisbury Township, Dec. 27, 2012.
According to District Attorney Jim Martin, the woman was discovered around 9:40 a.m. along the side of the road, just south of the entrance to the Unami Fish and Game Protective Association Inc. He said a fire was reported to police and the body was found between the guardrail and a tree.
According to Martin, the death is being investigated as "suspicious."
Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim pronounced the woman dead at 10:20 a.m.
The unidentified woman is thought to be between 20 and 40 years old.
The woman was still being reported as a "Jane Doe" after an autopsy Dec. 28, 2012.
The report by Grim said the woman had brown hair, weighed between 150 and 175 pounds and stood between 5 feet and 5 feet 2 inches.
The woman had a tattoo on the right side of her neck with the inscription "J A V I" and was wearing a yellow hoop earring 2 to 2.5 inches wide. She was also found with a woven bracelet containing Puerto Rican flag beads. Grim said she could have been wearing gray sweatpants, black tightly woven clothing material and a red colored shirt.
Salisbury Township Police Chief Alan W. Stiles said township police spent approximately five hours investigating the scene.
"We will follow every lead to determine who committed this crime," Stiles said.
The Lehigh County Coroner's Office, Salisbury Township Police Department, Lehigh County District Attorney's Office and Homicide Task Force Detectives are working to investigate the incident.
