The Parkland Ice Hockey team completed a perfect season in the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Ice Hockey League on Friday, defeating Emmaus 6-1 to win the best of three Pure Division championship series 2-0.

Trojans (17-0-1) dominated the LVSHL from start to finish, with a combination of size, speed, and skill that could not be matched. Head coach Gerry Chandik could not be prouder of his team, and realizes what talent he has on his roster.

"Bunch of talented kids, we've seen a bunch of talented players on different teams, but they're not teams like our guys," said Chandik. "These guys work together as a team, they worked hard, they moved the puck, they back checked hard, they were supporting each other."

The Trojans opened the scoring in the first with a Ben Zager goal with 6:48 remaining. Emmaus pulled even just four minutes into the second, but then the Trojans defense dug their heals in, and the rest was history.

"If we play like that we can beat anyone. We have the best goalie in the league," said captain Jay Swartz. "We can beat anybody; we're a talented team from top to bottom, from our offense to our defense to our goalie."

Nick Chandik scored two goals in under a minute to close the second period, sealing the game for the Trojans.

"We kept going strong and really got fired up when one of our players got hurt down there," said Chandik. "We came in after the break and came in hammering. We kept putting the puck on net and they didn't know how to respond."

Putting the puck on net led to five goals in the final 18 minutes of play, including two by Ryan Dumbach and Chandik's pair. Ben Zager added another goal in the third as well.

Goalie Rob Stock won his 17th game, and has allowed just 29 goals all season, allowing the Trojans to outscore their opponents by just under 100 goals.

The Trojans advance now to the Flyers Cup, where they played sixth-seeded Abington in the first round on Wednesday night at Warwick. If the Trojans play like they can, they have a chance to make a deep run.

"In Flyers Cup we need to play our game, keep grinding, play strong defense and put the puck on the net," said Nick Chandik.

"As long as we keep this motto going, I think we can surprise some people going into the next series," said Coach Chandik. "Just keep the intensity up, don't back down, believe in yourselves, move the puck, skate hard and back check, and we can play a lot more games going forward."

If they continue to play the way they did Friday night, look for the Trojans to make some noise in the Flyers Cup.
