Floyd G. McDeavitt

Floyd G. "Mac" McDeavitt, msgt. retired, 76, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Walnutport, died Nov. 25, 2012.

He and his wife Barbara (Schultz) McDeavitt celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary on Dec. 1.

Born and raised in Slippery Rock, he was the son of the late Albert and Alberta McDeavitt.

He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force, with 30 years of service.

He was a member of VFW Post 7215, Walnutport.

An avid fisherman and hunter, he enjoyed many fishing trips to Canada with his brother-in-law Robin Schultz and long-time friend John Bender.

He also enjoyed hunting with his nephew Dan Lindey and his brother Tom McDeavitt.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Barbara Jo and her husband, Richard McCarney; stepdaughters Patricia and her husband, Raymond Sundy, Jacelyn Cressman, and Laura and her husband, Tom Woodrum; brother Tom McDeavitt; twin sister Lauretta Lindey, and sister Garnet Speer; grandchildren Carl, Jordan, Amy and Ansleigh Cressman, Preston, Grady and Lillian Woodrum, Aimee McLaughlin, and Kyle, Cassie and Jamie McCarney; two great-grandchildren; and his beloved dog, Noel.

He was predeceased by brothers Albert "Bill" and Jess McDeavitt.

His memorial service will take place 7:30 p.m. Dec. 21, in Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville with the Rev. Dennis W. Moore officiating.

Family and friends may pay their respects one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
