A developer has until Jan. 15 to install a driveway at the McCauley residence.

Coplay Borough Council voted unanimously Dec. 11 to require Wilbur E. Hill, doing business as WRW Builders LLC, to install the driveway at 57 N. Fifth Street within a month.

The decision follows an Oct. 25 zoning hearing during which time residents Matthew and Stephany McCauley were granted a variance for not having the required off-street parking.

The McCauleys received a notice of violation from the borough Aug. 30 – after they bought the home without any knowledge of the requirement.

The variance meant the McCauleys are not responsible for installing the driveway.

At the Nov. 13 meeting, council authorized Solicitor James Preston to pull the bond posted by the developer as a guarantee that public improvements would be made. The issue was discussed in an executive session that night.

Preston was able to negotiate an agreement with the developer to install the driveway as required. He asked council to decide how long to give the developer to complete the project.

Council members said they wanted to allow no more than a month, despite the potential for cold or snowy weather.

Neighbors have spoken up, saying they want the driveway installed because otherwise, on-street parking becomes a problem.
