Dennis R. Oberholtzer, 73, of Macungie, died December 9, in Luther Crest Health Center of complications from 60 years of Type 1 (Juvenile) Diabetes. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Carol (Lanz) Weiser Oberholtzer. His first wife, Michelene (Ruggiero) Oberholtzer, predeceased him in 1981. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Roscoe R. and Sara (Stoneback) Oberholtzer of Coopersburg.

He was a 1957 graduate of Southern Lehigh High School and received a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1961 from Temple University, where he was a member of the concert choir.

He was the owner of Oberholtzer Kitchens, a business started by his grandfather. In addition to kitchens, his custom designs included bathroom, home libraries and home theaters, and other cabinetry in homes throughout the Lehigh Valley and up and down the east coast.

A lifelong music lover, he played trumpet in high school, in SoLeHi alumni musicals and in church brass ensembles.

He was a gourmet cook who took great pleasure in planning and providing elaborate dinners for family and friends. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife; daughters, Carolyn and her husband Edmund Kelly of New York City, Kathryn Panny of Allentown, and Karyn and her husband Andrew Shaw of Northampton, Mass; stepdaughter Christine and her husband Robert Giglio of Elkins Park; stepson, Mark and his wife Amy Punt of Los Angeles; sister, Janet and her husband Rodney Haupt of Reading; grandchildren, Edmund Kelly III, Stephanie, Jennifer, Christopher, and John Panny; Ian and William Shaw, and Dexter Giglio; cousins; nieces and nephews.
