Richard H. Carls

Richard H. Carls, 78, of Fogels-ville, died Dec. 1, 2012, in St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem.

He and his wife Patricia (Keller) Carls, celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on Oct. 7.

Born in Wescosville, he was the son of the late John and Arlene (Bieber) Carls.

A branch manager for Meridian Bank Corporation for 36 years before retiring, he served at Coopersburg, College Park, South Mountain, and Allentown branches.

After retiring, he returned to banking for several years with East Penn Bank as a loan officer at the Emmaus branch.

He was a longtime member of the former Seibert Evangelical Congregational Church, Allentown, where he served as treasurer and board member for more than 40 years.

An active sportsman, he played softball for many years with the church team as catcher.

He and his family also ran C&M Lawn service for 27 years serving many in the greater Allentown area.

He also served his country in the Army.

He was deeply devoted to his wife, family and church.

A kind and compassionate man to his friends and acquaintances, he loved his only granddaughter, Makenna, with all his heart.

His family and friends will remember him for his grand smile and for his giving without hesitation.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Gayle D., wife of Jeffrey Yastrop, of Palmerton, Diane L., wife of Steve Howell of Manassas, Va., Kristen B. Carls of Fogelsville; sister Lina O'Brien-West, wife of George West of Allentown; brother Theodore B. and wife Deborah of Northville, Mich.; sister-in-law; Nancy Carls of Allentown; granddaughter: Makenna Howell; four nieces and five nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother William.
