Frozen Trojans shut down Freedom, 5-0
The Parkland ice hockey team remained undefeated with an easy 5-0 victory over Freedom on Monday night at the Steel Ice Center in Bethlehem.
The Frozen Trojans (9-0) sit atop the Lehigh Valley Scholastic Hockey League's Pure Division and have a week off before taking on rival Emmaus on December 17.
Brett McHale once again led the way for Parkland, scoring a pair of goals in the second period to help break open the game.
The win was the team's third shutout of the season and the sixth game in which the Trojans have held opponents to one goal or less.
Nick Chandik got Parkland on the board early, when he was on the receiving end of passes from McHale and Matt Knotek and beat the Patriots goalie to put the Trojans on top 1-0.
About three minutes later, Chandik started a scoring chance with a pass to Jay Swartz, who found Ben Zager open for a power-play goal to make it 2-0.
Evan Dratch added another goal in the first period, getting an assist from Zach Zager and Colin Pratt to make it 3-0.
The second period belonged to McHale and the Trojans.
The forward continued a torrid stretch, which has now seen him score multiple goals in five straight game, with two in the period.
His first goal came 5:16 into the second when he scored on an assist from Ben Zager and Ryan Dumbach. He later slammed home a pass from Chandik for the fifth and final goal of the game.
While the Trojans didn't manage to scored in the third period, they controlled the tempo and played much of the period on Freedom's end of the ice.
Robbie Stock started the game at goalie and pitched a shutout through 2:30 of the third period. He was relieved by backup Jordan Lorah, who kept the Patriots off the board the remainder of the game.
