STUDENT OF THE WEEK Evan Wait
Q: What grade are you in?
A: I am in 12th grade.
Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?
A: My favorite subject this year is physics. I'm currently in a calculus-based physics course and I really enjoy the problem-solving aspect of the class. There's nothing better than working through a long problem and finally finding an answer.
Okay, there are probably better things in life, but you get what I mean.
Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A: This year I won first place in the Emmaus Student Horror Film Festival for "Slenderman," a short film I directed, shot and edited. I'm also a member of both National Honor Society and National Latin Honor Society.
Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
A: I'm the historian of Peer Assisted Learning Support at Emmaus High School and I'm also a Hornet Ambassador. In addition, I run cross-country and compete on the debate team. In the winter, I instruct ski lessons at Bear Creek Mountain Resort. I'm also a member of the band Sharing Stereo.
Q: What is your next goal after high school?
A: My next goal after high school is to attend a four-year college and get a degree in either chemical engineering or chemistry. Sometime down the road I hope to enter the medical field.
Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?
A: I am lucky enough to have not been faced with any major challenges in my life so far, but if I had to pick the biggest challenge, I would have to say that simply managing my time has been difficult at points.
Q: What do you want to be remembered for?
A: I want to be remembered as a friendly kid who never took himself too seriously.
Q: Who is in your family?
A: My parents, Mark and Kelliann. I have two sisters, Jennifer and Marley, and a dog Lola.
Q: Do you have someone you look up to?
A: I admire my father as someone who has worked hard and continues to work hard while still making time for family and fun.
Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?
A: Pursue your passion. Don't disservice yourself by simply following the path you think society or your parents will approve.
