Edward Elias Geosits
Edward Elias Geosits, 55, died in his home with his family after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He was the husband of Jill (Rush) Geosits. They were married for 32 years. Born in Easton, he was a son of Edward S. and Maureen (Shumar) Geosits.
He attended Easton High School, Lafayette College and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine where he enjoyed playing basketball, one of his passions. In 1975, he was named the East Penn League Most Valuable Player.
Upon graduation from medical school, he was an intern at St. Luke's Hospital and a resident at Lehigh Valley Hospital. He served as an obstetrician/gynecologist in the U.S. Navy from 1988 to 1992 at Camp Pendleton, Calif. While in the service, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant Commander and received the Meritorious Service Medal.
He was employed by Lehigh Valley Hospital as a physician at College Heights OB/GYN for the last 20 years. During his service in the Navy and with College Heights, he was presented many awards for outstanding teaching including the Semmelweis Award in OB/GYN Education in 2008. In addition to teaching and mentoring fellow physicians, he was an exceptional coach of basketball and softball in the Lower Macungie Athletic Association and AAU basketball program.
He was a faithful member of St. Thomas More Church.
In addition to basketball, his other passions included, cooking, golfing with friends at Lehigh County Club and mostly his family.
He is survived by his wife; children, Lindsey and her husband Charles Lee, Emily and Michael; parents; brother, Peter and his wife Laurie of Media; sister, Maryann and her husband Frank Baloh of Allentown; in-laws, Robert and Joan Rush of Phillipsburg, N.J.
