Gavin Carey (Salisbury) tapped in a centered pass from his brother Ian to put the Whitehall/Salisbury hockey team in front late in the first period. There wasn't much time to celebrate, however, as four second period goals from Emmaus shifted the momentum towards a 5-2 Green Hornets win.

"We were feeling pretty confident," said head coach Rich Crowley. "We know we're not a high scoring team, so we get one goal and a bit of momentum."

Whitehall/Salisbury (1-5-2) was again kept alive by the superb play of goalkeeper Tristen Collins, another Salisbury product. Collins stopped 36 shots on 41 attempts, one goal going to an open netter at the end of the game when the outcome was nearly decided.

Whatever was said by Emmaus (6-1) head coach Brian Braun worked. The Green Hornets raced out to a four goal period. David Bailey and Matt Heffelfinger scored within three minutes of each other, and forward Drew Phillipes added two goals with under 21 seconds remaining.

"We had a mental let down," noted Crowley. "We let up two goals within the last 21 seconds. The cardinal rule is you have to protect your net towards the end of the period."

Whitehall/Salisbury had good looks on net themselves in the second period. Whitehall products Matt Emerick, Michael Crowley, and Max Beedle were all stoned of fine efforts from Michael Smoker.

They finally broke through with 12:10 to go in the final period. Kyle Blum was on the receiving end of a Beedle pass in front of Smoker. The goal would not have happened if it wasn't for the hustle and relentless effort of Beedle to win the puck and get off a good pass to Blum.

"I thought we had the ice flipped in our favor after our second goal," added Crowley. "We had to become more offensive minded. We needed to take more chances. We were there the whole game apart from the final 20 seconds of the second period. We know we can compete with anybody, we just need to create offensive opportunities."

Whitehall/Salisbury was only outshot 35-30. Cody Rinkus and Emerick each tallied an assist.
