Ethan A. Bond

Ethan A. "Iggy" Bond, 89, died Nov. 22, 2012, in his Kempton home.

He was predeceased by his wife Lenore M. ( Fister) Bond in 2009.

Born in Kempton, he was a son of the late Wert A. and Lila A. (Lutz) Bond.

A 1941 graduate of Slatington High School, he was a rural mail carrier for the Kempton Post Office for 25 years before retiring in 1988.

Retired Kempton rural mail carrier Lucy Muth credits Bond with helping her learn the job.

"Ethan was very active in his community and served his country well in the Navy and as a U.S. Postal Service worker," Muth said. "As his substitute rural letter carrier, he was my mentor and later grew to be a good friend."

Muth recalls he loved trains, woodworking, his country and especially his family.

"Ethan, we will miss you," Muth said fondly of her friend.

He was a member of New Bethel Church, Kempton, where he served as the former cemetery treasurer.

A charter member of the Kempton Lions Club, he was the club's past president and treasurer and a recipient of the Melvin Jones and Bing Miller awards for outstanding service.
