A four-vehicle crash Friday on Route 22 in Whitehall Township took the life of a New Jersey man.
William H. Wilson III, 24, of Stewartsville, N.J., was pronounced dead at the scene Nov. 16 by Lehigh County Deputy Coroner Rich Kroon, according to a news release from the coroner's office.
The cause of death is attributed to blunt force trauma to the head.
Wilson was one of two occupants of a vehicle that had slowed in the left westbound lane in an active construction zone near mile marker 322, just east of Route 145, according to state police.
At approximately 2:26 a.m. another vehicle operated at a high rate of speed crashed into the rear of Wilson's vehicle and also struck a third vehicle, police said.
Wilson's vehicle struck a fourth vehicle, police said.
The other occupant of Wilson's vehicle was taken to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest in critical condition, along with the operator of the vehicle that struck it from the rear, police said.
The occupants of the fourth vehicle were taken to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest for minor injuries, police said.
The occupants of the third vehicle were not injured, police said.
All westbound lanes of Route 22 were closed for several hours following the crash, police said.
