Lehigh Valley Health Network once again administered free seasonal flu vaccinations for adults and children six months and older during two community sessions in November. Shots were all drive-thru at Dorney Park Nov. 3 and at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown Nov. 4.
LVHN partnering with area food banks and shelters including the Allentown Area Ecumenical Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank, Allentown Rescue Mission and the AIDS Activities Office food pantry to accept donations of nonperishable food items that have not expired during each of the drive-thru sessions. Food donations were optional and not required to receive a shot.
A total of 11,208 flu shots were given between the two locations -- 5,693 at Dorney Park and 5,515 at Coca-Cola Park. In addition, 13,491 pounds of food was collected. According to Terry Burger, RN, LVHN's director of infection control and prevention, the vaccine supply is plentiful this year.
