Geraldine E. Civitts, 98, of Salisbury Township, died November 12, 2012. She was the wife of the late J. Paul Civitts. Born in Richland, she was a daughter of the late Wallace Daniel Emerick and Esther (Ream) Emerick.

She was always interested in education. She started a kindergarten for area children in her home when there was none in the community while living in Emporium. She first taught public school in Pine Grove in the 1930's. She had been a teacher in the Allentown School District and had been a former employee of Hess's Department Store in Allentown.

She enjoyed traveling the world, living in Mexico and Argentina in the 1960's while her husband was employed in those countries.

She had an avid interest in plants and flowers, was a member of the Allentown Garden Club, the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Lehigh Chapter, The Eastern Star in Altoona. She enjoyed playing golf and was a competitive-level bridge player.

She is survived by a daughter Barbara and her husband Donald Mumbauer; son, John and his wife, Nancy; four grandchildren, Lynda, Melissa, Jacob and Justin; five great-grandsons.
