Children enjoyed face painting, a lollipop tree game, pumpkin painting and more recently at Alburtis Area Community Center's fall festival and cow pie bingo. Many were invited to the festival; however, fewer rides, games and vendors participated this year. Coordinator Sherry Oels did not know the reason for the drop in attendance because all were notified, but thought it might be due to the present economy.
The Pet Fest on the upper level outside the Center was as popular as ever. Canine demos for obedience and nose work and a costume contest were included and many vendors and animal rescues for dogs and cats were also present. Numerous organizations had displays, including the Lehigh Valley Therapy Dogs, Harnessed to Hope Northern and the Valley Central Emergency Vet Hospital Animal Blood Bank. Set up on the stage inside the center was LN's Traveling Reptiles, of Hereford, providing an educational and entertaining show including rats, mice, reptiles and snakes. An albino king snake owned by Michael Pagano and Ellen Genesio's huge ghost male albino Bermese python was draped over her shoulders.
Food and drinks were available and vendors displayed their wares inside the center.
Winners of the cow pie bingo were first prize, Keith Rothrock, $400; second prize, David Kerr, $200; third prize, Emily Herring, $100; fourth prize, Taylor and Avery Haberle, $50 and fifth prize, Kyle Bortz, $50.
