The preliminary 2013 budget proposed by Upper Milford supervisors has no tax increase, but achieves that goal in part by eliminating donations to organizations such as the Upper Milford Youth Association, the senior citizens groups in Vera Cruz and Old Zionsville, and a number of Allentown or Lehigh County organizations.
Township manager Daniel DeLong said in a telephone interview last week the supervisors recommended taking away all of what he called "cultural donations."
Other organizations which would no longer receive donations include the Lehigh County Senior Citizens, the Allentown Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels and the Visiting Nurse Association.
In the past, the township has donated anywhere from a few hundred dollars to these organizations to $2,500 to the UMYA.
The total amount of these donations in the past has been in the neighborhood of $10,000, DeLong said.
The budget still has to be approved at supervisors' Nov. 15 meeting, then advertised for a month before being adopted at a year-end meeting.
The proposed budget does include money to finish the repair of the Yeakel's Mill Road bridge and $3,000 for a permanent sign in front of the township building.
