Former Alburtis fire chief and Mayor Robert W. Mader honored

Church of the Good Shepherd UCC was completely full with people standing in the back of the church Nov. 8 during the Celebration of Life Service for former Alburtis Borough Fire Police Chief and Mayor Robert W. Mader who died Oct. 22. Besides Mader's family and many friends the entire Alburtis Volunteer Fire Department, Fire Police and Police Department, many neighboring fire departments and ambulance corps attended including Topton, Lower Macungie, Macungie, Trexlertown, Zion Lehigh and more.

Officiated by The Rev. Scott M. Sanders, the service lasted about an hour. Sanders spoke of how Mader had lived his life serving others, the good he had done and how much he truly loved and enjoyed what he did. The way Mader lived his life came from his faith and belief in God commented Sanders.

In addition to biblical readings, Sanders read "A Fire Chief's Prayer" and the 23rd Psalm.

Following the service, Mader was taken for a last ride on his favorite fire truck around Alburtis and when they passed Alburtis Elementary School, the principal, Dr. Ron Renaldi had all the students lined up along the street as the fire truck passed by.

Mader was laid to rest at Lehigh Zion Cemetery, Alburtis, with full Alburtis Fire Department Honors and Military Honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9264 Honor Guard, Macungie at Lehigh.
