Dexter F. Baker, 85, former Chairman and CEO of Air Products and Chemicals died November 1, 2012, in Houston, Texas, after an illness. He was the husband of Dorothy Baker. They were married for 61 years.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering, a Master of Business Administration and Honorary Doctor of Engineering degrees from Lehigh University. In 1952 he joined Air Products and Chemicals in its formative years. He moved to London with his young family and built their international division.

He was a distinguished and active leader in the community. He passionately believed in giving back to the communities where he resided. The Dexter F. and Dorothy H. Baker Foundation supports numerous Lehigh Valley and national nonprofits in the arts, youth, social service initiatives and entrepreneurship. His fundamental belief that "the only future we have is the one we create for ourselves," was the founding idea for Lehigh University's Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation. His love for creativity and value of the arts spurred the Baker Hall at Lehigh University and the Dexter and Dorothy Baker Center for Performing Arts at Muhlenberg College.

He was a long-time trustee with the Harry C. Trexler Trust. He received numerous national and local awards for achievements in business, community leadership, and philanthropic support. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife; four daughters; six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lehigh Valley youth and arts organizations or the Baker Institute for Entrepreneurship, Creativity and Innovation at Lehigh University.
