Good Will Fire Company, Trexlertown, is having a benefit breakfast to help one of its own.

Linda Slifer, 57, who lives in Upper Macungie Township, suffered a grade five subarachnoid hemorrhage from a brain aneurysm on July 15, her daughter Dana Miller told The Press.

Miller said her mother was watering the plants and playing with her grandson, Max Miller, 3, when she came into the house and called her name.

"She sounded odd, so I went down to see what she wanted," Miller said. "I found her sitting on the floor, dripping sweat, and complaining of a headache.

"I knew something was wrong, so I called for my husband, Brent. When he saw her, he didn't hesitate. He picked her up and put her in the car."

Miller said her mom could not feel her left leg at this point and she was in excruciating pain.

"Brent drove her to the hospital as fast as he could, beeping his horn, flashing his lights, driving up the median," Miller said. "I am glad we had arrived from Dallas, Texas, the day before."

Slifer has undergone multiple surgeries, been in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Good Shepherd and is now residing in Phoebe Nursing Home, Allentown.

Slifer, the daughter of the late Margaret and Robert Knerr, was born and raised in Allentown.

She is a 1972 graduate of Allen High School.

"She has a wonderful brother, John Knerr, and sister, Sandy Scheirer, and two kids, me and my brother, Dustin, and three grandchildren Max, Jaidyn, 2, (Dustin's daughter) and my daughter, Molly, 16 months," Miller said. "My mother is the most loving, caring, giving person you could ever imagine with a heart made of gold.

In addition to family members, Slifer cares for her two dogs, Elvis, a Saint Bernard; and Paco, a chihuahua.

"She volunteers all the time. She donates her time to every cause she can."

According to Linda Gorr, secretary for Good Will Fire Company, Slifer is a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and over the years has helped with the monthly breakfasts, fasnacht sale and many fundraisers.

Miller said her mother's laugh and smile are contagious and her love for life and upbeat spirit are second to none.

"She is everyone's best friend," Miller said. "She is the most wonderful person I have ever met, and I am so fortunate to call her my mom."

Miller and her children have been living out of suitcases at her mother's home while her husband travels back and forth to Texas for work.

The benefit breakfast will be 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Good Will Fire Company, 7723 Hamilton Blvd., Trexlertown.

The meal includes eggs, ham, bacon, sausage, mackerel, homefries, pancakes, toast, coffee and juice.

All proceeds will go to fund her care.
