From Minnie Mouse to cowgirls and the Hulk to pi, Parkland High School was full of teachers dressed in their favorite Halloween costumes on Oct. 25.
Every year on the Friday before Halloween, teachers enter a costume contest, anticipating students find their creations as funny and creative as they do.
"It shows spirit in the school and shows students that we are not serious all the time," Junior English teacher Timothy Schwarz said. "It shows we can enjoy life."
For some this day of "dress up" is an opportunity to show their students how creative and funny they can truly be.
"I like goofing with the kids. Every year when I wear something new they walk in and say 'ahh Mr. Kiernan!'" math teacher Brian Kiernan said.
Before school starts, teachers have their pictures taken in the library and during lunch periods students put money into the jars for the teachers they feel were best.
Each year, the money raised goes toward something students would enjoy.
In previous years, the money was used for microwaves and a bagel toaster in the cafeteria and the benches throughout the school.
After the last period of lunch, the Student Senate counts the money in the jars.
By the end of the day, they announced who the winners were.
This year, the winner was the Learning Support Team whose members dressed as Snow White and the Seven Dorks (Dwarfs).
In second place was earth science teacher Robert Robitaille in his Incredible Hulk costume.
Taking third place was junior history teacher Ellen Snyder as Susan B. Anthony.
