A 52-year-old South Whitehall Township man was recently arrested during a drug sting in Emmaus.

According to an affidavit of probable cause obtained from District Judge Donna Butler's office, Mark W. Clauser, 1421 Springhouse Road, South Whitehall, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, criminal use of communication facility and possession of a controlled substance.

The affidavit states Detective Andrew Artim of the Whitehall Township Police Department, assigned to the Lehigh County Drug Task Force, was conducting an investigation involving Clauser around 11:30 p.m. Oct. 24.

A confidential informant allegedly made arrangements via Clauser's cell phone for the purchase and delivery of crack cocaine, Artim states in the affidavit.

Clauser allegedly received marked currency from the informant for the purchase.

At 1:25 a.m. Oct. 25, Clauser allegedly returned with what was represented to be cocaine and was taken into custody, Artim states.

According to Artim, the suspected cocaine was field tested and gave a positive reaction for cocaine.

Clauser was arraigned before District Judge David B. Harding, Coopersburg, and sent to Lehigh County Prison on $40,000 bail, Lehigh County Court records indicate.

His preliminary hearing is 1:30 p.m. Nov. 1 before Harding.
