PTF provides 'best possible learning environment'

In the library of Catasauqua Middle School on a Thursday evening, a small yet dedicated group of parents assembles with CMS Principal Melissa Inselmann to discuss the school's focus on providing a fun and educational atmosphere for middle school students.

These parents comprise the Parent Teacher Forum.

The PTF is a nonprofit parent/teacher assemblage of parents, teachers and the principal.

The board, which consists of a president, vice president, secretary and treasurer, governs the organization by establishing and voting on meeting dates, general meeting programs, fundraisers and requests for funding.

The PTF conducts fundraisers for field trips and supplemental education materials and programs, and supports school and family social interaction, such as school dances and family movie nights.

"The PTF is a dedicated group of parents whose mission is to promote communication, enhance and maximize the education of every child and support the efforts and initiatives of the school and community," said Inselmann. "It is our belief that the team effort of a parent/teacher forum offers the best possible learning environment for our children."

Currently the PTF is searching for parents to get involved and volunteer to chaperone dances, provide baked goods or drinks for social events, assist with fundraisers, school events and class activities and assist with other activities when needed in the main office or guidance department.

"The students reap the benefits by your involvement whether big or small," added Inselmann.

The PTF meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the CMS library.
