Parent wants school bus stop moved

Debbie Edelman, a resident of North Catasauqua, requested the school district move the Front and Chapel streets bus stop to where it was previously located, at Second and Chapel streets.

She spoke to school board members about the issue during the Oct. 9 Catasauqua Area School Board meeting.

Edelman's concern involves the safety of her daughter, who attends Sheckler Elementary School, crossing the street. She said the intersection where the current bus stop is located is dangerous.

Board member Penny Hahn said it might be a "good idea to bring up" to the North Catasauqua Borough to "monitor that area."

Edelman told The Press she has called the district numerous times since the beginning of the school year. The district, she said, told her it would look into changing the bus stop location. To date, the bus stop remains at the intersection of Front and Chapel.

In other business, the board approved Yvette Campbell as a guest substitute teacher; Richard Milne to serve as music drama director, vocal director and honor band coordinator; Charles Post as the "Brown & White" coadvisor, National Honor Society advisor and high school scholastic bowl coach; James Schaffer as "Brown & White" co-coordinator and the high school audio-visual coordinator; Paula Semmel as student council advisor; Molly LaVigne as the senior class advisor; and Erin DeBoer as sophomore class advisor.

Also approved was Barbara Resto as yearbook advisor; Scott Bateman as high school technical stage manager; Glenn Reightler as head track coach; Frank Schlofer and Patrick MacLaughlin as assistant track coaches; Steve Bradley as head baseball coach; Eric Snyder and Dennis Kelly as assistant baseball coaches; Robert Thomas as head softball coach; Victor Diaz and Randy Sell as assistant softball coaches; and Stephanie Remington as the assistant girls basketball coach.

The board also approved incremental salary increases for Kevin Foley and Christine Schuebel, a concurrent dual enrollment agreement with Lehigh Carbon Community College and approved the Pennsylvania Department of Education Audit Recommendation.

The approved audit did not contain any findings or observations for the year ending June 30, 2010, and 2009.

"This is a good thing, a very good thing," said Hahn.

The board will hold its next workshop meeting 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute, 4500 Education Park, Schnecksville.
