James W. Vaughn
James W. "Walt" Vaughn, 88, of Orefield, formerly of Blossburg, Tioga County, died Oct. 25, 2012, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.
He and his wife Uarda V. (Scaife) Vaughn celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last April 6.
Born March 2, 1924, in Charleston Township, Tioga County, he was the son of the late William Curtis and Esther (Jones) Vaughn.
He faithfully and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
He was a carpenter at the former J.P. Ward Foundry Inc., Blossburg, for 34 years before retiring in 1984.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Blossburg.
His memberships and accomplishments included being a life member of the DAV, a member of the Howard L. Peter American Legion Post 354, Allentown, a life member of VFW Post 8730, Blossburg, a 50-year member and twice past master of the Bloss Lodge 350, F.&A.M., a member of the Valley of Williamsport Consistory and the Rajah Shrine, Reading.
An avid outdoorsman, he was a life member of the Copeechan Fish and Game Club, Schnecksville, an honorary member of the Guthsville Rod and Gun Club and a life member of the Hillside Rod and Gun Club, Blossburg.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons James R. and his wife, Jane, of Bath, Dr. Robert W. and his wife, Lisa, of New Tripoli; sisters Mildred E. Scaife of Horseheads, N.Y., Ruth E. Berguson from Arnot; grandchildren Jessica, James R. II, Elizabeth and Amy; great-granddaughters Rebecka and Sarah.
He was predeceased by brothers Donald M. and Edward W.
His memorial service will be 11 a.m. Nov. 3, in Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville.
Visitation 7-8:30 p.m. Friday and 10-11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home.
