Charotin Hose Co. Fire Calls

North Catasauqua's Charotin Hose Company recently responded to the following calls.

Fire alarm

Sept. 28, noon

North Catasauqua firefighters responded to the 500 block of Third Street with the Catasauqua Fire Department for an automatic fire alarm.

Carbon monoxide alarm

Oct. 1, 12:35 a.m.

Charotin personnel responded for a carbon monoxide alarm in the 700 block of Washington Avenue, Northampton. The caller had reported a carbon monoxide alarm activation with no victims. Firefighters found no carbon monoxide in the residence and believe the alarm was due to a detector malfunction.

Industrial fire

Oct. 1, 6:39 p.m.

Charotin personnel responded with the Northampton Fire Department for an industrial fire at Atlas Machining & Welding, 799 Smith Lane, in Northampton.

Smoke was seen at the location. Firefighters investigated and found a forklift was on fire inside the building. The fire was knocked down by Atlas staff using dry chemical extinguishers. Firefighters stretched a line and fully extinguished the fire.

Firefighters used a dozen fans to ventilate the smoke that had accumulated in the building. Due to the building's size, high ceilings and construction, ventilating the smoke took about an hour.

Allen Township Fire Department and Medic 49 were also on the assignment.

Fire alarm

Oct. 2, 2:35 p.m.

North Catasauqua and Catasauqua personnel responded to an automatic fire alarm at Silver Manor on Front Street, Catasauqua.

The alarm company reported a basement alarm. A second call from the alarm company reported activation due to construction. The proper code was given, and a cancellation of the call was requested. Asst. Chief 1802 went on location. The property owner reported plumbers working in the basement to repair leaking pipe.

The fire alarm system was reset before firefighters arrived and the owner was placing the system on test. The assignment was recalled.

Fire alarm

Oct. 4, 8:20 a.m.

North Catasauqua firefighters responded for an automatic fire alarm, again at Silver Manor on Front Street. Personnel from the Catasauqua Fire Department were also on location. Responders reported burned food in one of the apartments.

Dwelling fire

Oct. 4, 8:44 a.m.

NCFD responded with the Northampton Fire Department for a reported dwelling fire at 847 Washington Ave., Northampton. Black smoke was seen coming from a chimney.

Smoke was no longer coming from the chimney upon arrival at the residential duplex. The house was unoccupied and secured. There was a slight odor of an oil burner malfunction at the rear of the property. Neighbors reported black smoke has been coming from the chimney a couple of times recently.

The neighbor in the other half of the duplex made contact with the landlord and a keyholder responded. Upon gaining entry, a light smoke condition was found in the basement and low levels of carbon monoxide. The basement was ventilated and the property was released to the keyholder for service.
