John C. Timmins, 93, of Allentown, lived a long, adventure-filled life and died October 26, 2012, in his home and on his terms. He was the husband of the late Zelda (Miller) Timmons. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Herbert C. and Pearl V. (Crum) Timmins.

He was a 1937 graduate of William Allen High School and earned an engineering degree from Penn State.

He worked as an engineer for Rodale Manufacturing for 35 years, retiring in 1981.

He honorably served his country in the Army during World War II, earning a purple heart.

He was an active member of Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, where he helped to organize and advise their anniversary celebrations with period costumes. He made pew candle holders for the candlelight services and created outdoor carriage lamps used during holiday services. He loved to attend the church picnic every summer.

He was involved in reenactment groups, such as the Northamptontowne Militia, 2nd PA Regiment/43rd of Foot, World War II and the Liberty Bell Trek. He loved working with his hands as well as his mind. He did many wood and leather projects and sewed most of his own reenactment clothing from patterns he created.

He was a familiar face at all local auction houses, which he attended faithfully each week.

During his later years, he did up to 100 crossword puzzles a week to keep his mind sharp.

He is survived by sons, Gary J. of Emmaus, Kirk C. and his wife Marilyn, of Center Valley; daughters, Patricia B. and her husband Donald Afflerbach of Macungie, and Cheryl R. of Allentown; sister, Gwendolyn Daphne Noone of Hagerstown, Md.; grandchildren, Kim Hooks, Sara Afflerbach, Julie Trumbauer, Jamie, Jacob, Darren Fritsch, Jonathan, and Lauren Barsum; seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 in Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church, 3441 Devonshire Road, Allentown, 18103. Viewing 10 to 11 a.m. in the church. The Schantz Funeral Home, P.C., Emmaus is handling arrangements.
